Youth PoWR 2019 - SOUTH!

Event description

Youth PoWR is back! In 2019 it is undergoing a total make-over! We have a new task, more events, more venues and more opportunities to meet young people from different religions.

Youth PoWR will generate the content of The Sydney Statement, a list of interfaith actions for building better relations between believers from different religions. The Statement will be published on a dedicated website where people from all religions across Sydney can commit to these interfaith actions by endorsing the statement with the click of a button.

Accordingly, we invite young adults from different religions to come to Youth PoWR, to share their thoughts, ideas, and hopes for a harmonious, interfaith society. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fashion the type of multi-faith society that you want. And unlike other city statements, this project is being led by you, the youth of Sydney!

To assist you, Western Sydney University (WSU) has researched interreligious statements from other cities around the world, including Athens, Vienna, and Washington. They have analysed what issues they address, what works, what doesn’t work, what is their impact, including, where possible, interviews with the authors of these statements. Based on this analysis, the WSU researchers have drawn up a template for The Sydney Statement.

Youth PoWR are hosting FOUR (4) professionally-facilitated workshops in the north, south, east and west of Sydney. Join us in your neighbourhood to contribute your ideas about how best to breakdown religious divides and promote interfaith dialogue and action in our multi-cultural and multi-religious city.

We’re excited to have the youth of Sydney drive The Sydney Statement and help build mutual understanding and cooperation between believers.

The Sydney Statement is an initiative of the Columban Centre for Christian-Muslim Relations in partnership with Western Sydney University and is being overseen by a Steering Committee of representatives from different religions. It was awarded a COMPACT grant from the NSW Government through Multicultural NSW with additional funding from St Columban’s Mission.
