Event description

Join Commission President Emeritus Professor Rosalind Croucher AO on the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, for a special Human Rights Day Oration.

Hear from special guest speakers the Hon Margaret White AO and Mick Gooda, the two Commissioners appointed to the Royal Commission, as they provide insights and reflections on the Royal Commission, its impact and achievements, one year on.

The Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory was established in 2016 to inquire into the treatment of children in detention facilities and child protection in the Northern Territory.

The Royal Commission uncovered shocking systemic failures and made recommendations on how to improve laws, policies and practices to provide a safer future for children in the Northern Territory. The Report of the Royal Commission was tabled in Parliament on 17 November 2017.

The Hon Margaret White AO

The Hon Margaret White's legal expertise spans over three decades. Following a long career as a barrister, Margaret was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland.
