From Gympie to Great Britain: A Conversation With Lisa Millar

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Lisa Millar is one of the ABC’s most well-known faces, bringing us breaking news from Washington and London for almost a decade.

Now the former Gympie girl is home, and we’re delighted she has agreed to be Women in Media Queensland’s first speaker for 2019.

Come along to hear Lisa talk about her humble beginnings (writing about head lice at The Gympie Times), her advice for budding journalists and her extraordinary career as the ABC’s Bureau Chief in Washington and London.

Lisa has covered some of the biggest international stories of the past decade, including the aftermath of September 11, the presidency of Barack Obama, the Paris Bataclan theatre massacre and the Sandy Hook school shooting.

She will also be sharing some of the lighter moments – like how you can be a foreign correspondent when you have a fear of flying, her Twitter fangirl moment with Prince Harry before the royal wedding and the controversy over ‘that’ black jacket ... and some of the very human moments, like being delayed on the way to a major international story because of a forgotten passport.

Lisa - who is currently co-hosting ABC Breakfast News while Virginia Trioli takes a break - will be in conversation with Women in Media national co-convenor and ABC journalist Kathy McLeish.

Canapes and drinks will be provided on arrival.

All welcome (and that includes men!)
