Academic editing: adding value to your writing
Suitable for all HDR students, research supervisors and staff

Many students and academics, especially those whose first language is not English, struggle with writing up their papers, dissertations, grant applications and other documents.

This free presentation will demonstrate how an academic editor can bring clarity to your writing, do greater justice to your research and help boost your publishing and career success.

Not just a spell check, academic editing covers grammar, spelling, vocabulary and meaning to achieve clarity of expression, consistency of presentation, conciseness in writing and much, much more.

    You will discover:

    • the difference between substantive editing, copy editing and proofreading
    • the responsibilities of students, supervisors and editors
    • how the editing process works
    • the benefits of editing
    • editing costs
    • background of what IPEd is and what it does
    • how to find an editor

The presentation will conclude with a short editing demonstration.
