Event description

You are invited to an evening of Standing Meditation and Calligraphy Yoga at the Leela Centre.

This workshop is designed to give you a taste of these 2 incredible modalities which will empower you to take ownership of your health through movement.

Standing Meditation is a simple but profound practice that will improve your awareness of how you stand and move through the world by learning how to release stored tension within and relax your body.

Calligraphy Yoga, developed by Master Zhen Hua Yang is a combination of 4 modalities designed as a system that increases internal energy, ultimately prolonging life by improving your health.

Read below to find out the benefits of these practices

We live in an increasingly paced, busy, stressful environment and over time tension builds up within our body, restricting the way we move and causing discomfort. The gradual accumulation of tension goes by unnoticed until it peaks with either an injury, illness or a realisation that something needs to change.

Standing Meditation and Calligraphy Yoga will not only support your physical body, also your emotional, energetic and spiritual bodies. The process of slowing down, breathing with intention and fine tuning your awareness will support you in peeling back the outer layers to reveal a deeper sense of self and move through the world in a more relaxed way.

The benefits of this practice are unique to each person as we are all individuals, with our own thoughts, beliefs, and experiences. I will guide you through these practices that will improve your awareness of what you need because ultimately you are responsible for your own experience and only you know what you really need.

Some benefits that I have experienced personally or witnessed include:

  • Alleviate stress, anxiety and depression
  • Improve balance, vitality, flexibility and blood circulation
  • Increase energy levels and clarity of mind
  • Reduction in pain and general discomfort
  • More self-awareness and deeper relaxation within yourself

I’m branding this style of movement workshops Adaptive Mindful Movement because anyone can participate no matter what age or physical condition, it can be adapted to suit your needs.

About Adam

Adam is an ex-professional athlete, inspirational speaker, entrepreneur and movement teacher. After being diagnosed with cancer at 13 years old, he was treated with chemotherapy and complicated surgeries which resulted in the removal of the right half of his pelvis. At 16 he started playing wheelchair tennis which became his profession until February 2019 when it was time for a change. During his career, he competed for Australia in the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Paralympics.

Leading up to his retirement Adam put his wheelchair in storage and after 15 years of chronic pain, started training his legs to walk the Kokoda Track. Alongside his business partner, he completed the track in November 2018 and raised over $56,000 for charity in the process. Adam's social enterprise is called the Age of Ability and exists to support people in overcoming the challenges that arise from injury and illness. He is passionate about sharing these movement practices because they helped him overcome chronic pain and enabled him to experience a side of life he didn't think was possible.
