Event description

Dear All,

You are invited to the launch of Architects Declare QLD at 6pm on Monday December 9th with a round table discussion at Wandering Cooks, South Brisbane. This first informal event is intended to be an optimistic, practical airing discussing how the construction industry is addressing the climate crisis. We want to hear what you care about and what is stopping you from doing it.

We invite all who are interested to come armed with short answers to the following two questions to be aired during a discussion moderated by Queensland Government Architect, Malcolm Middleton:

· What are you, or your practice currently doing to address the climate crisis?

· What are the critical barriers to positive change? What can we do about these and what do we need others to do?

There is more about us and our first event below. Please RSVP to reserve your interest.

Architects Declare QLD

---

Welcome to the QLD division of Architects Declare, a local examination of the 11-point declaration that acknowledges the twin crises of climate breakdown and the loss of biodiversity as the most serious issues of our time.

As you may be aware, the declaration has been signed by a number of high profile firms worldwide and has been endorsed by the Australian Institute of Architects since its foundation in July 2019. In doing so, signatories recognise that the conventions of contemporary architecture and construction are fundamentally at odds with planetary limits

Architects Declare QLD #1:

We are just starting out. Architects Declare QLD will facilitate a discussion where participants will share what their practice is doing to address the climate crisis and what they see the critical barriers to change are. We know that a path to action will lie in learning from each other, in forming peer to peer groups around common interests, and supporting each other to turn ideas into action.

· 6pm Arrive

· 6.30pm Discussion

· 7.30pm Drinks and Networking

This initial event has been organised by Clare Kennedy, Tom O'Shea, Britt Hill and Sam Bowstead under the direction of Architecture Declares AU. The QLD committee is still in formation and needs to represent a wide range of views and experiences. Please register your interest with any of us on the night.
