Presented by Museums & Galleries of NSW in partnership with Artbank, this one-day workshop will provide an overview of AV installation for exhibitions. Aimed at museum and gallery professionals the workshop will cover installation of commonly used equipment such as projectors, monitors, speakers and media players.

Get advice from our expert presenters on how to choose the best set up for each project and what features are worth paying extra for as well as addressing some common installation challenges. Navigate your way through file types, distinguish between hardware and learn how to sync a multi-channel artwork. The workshop will also provide an opportunity for hands-on experience with frequently used equipment, a troubleshooting session and take home resources to equip you with the confidence and skills to work with digital and sound based works.

Light lunch and refreshments are included in the registration cost. Please advise dietary requirements at time of booking.

PRESENTERS

Akil Ahamat
Akil Ahamat is an arts worker and interdisciplinary artist working in sound, video and installation. His own work is driven by research into the phenomenon of ASMR and the translation of its sonic aesthetics into gallery and performance contexts. Ahamat has extensive experience both installing and consulting on AV work in galleries including Campbelltown Arts Centre, UNSW Galleries, Artspace and Wollongong Art Gallery. He is currently Assistant Curator of Performance at Campbelltown Arts Centre.

Mark Brown
As the Installation and AV Manager for the Museum of Contemporary Art, Australia as well as a practicing artist working in sound installation and drone-based creative projects, Brown has a unique insight into the opportunities and challenges that technology presents in an exhibition context. In his current role and previously as AV Coordinator, Brown has been responsible for overseeing all audio-visual and lighting aspects of MCA exhibition projects over the past 10 years as these modes of practice have become increasingly prevalent in Contemporary Art projects. Brown also manages the Casual Installation Crew and the Installation aspects of MCA shows.

Dara Gill
Dara Gill a visual artist, film maker and the creator a of Lūpa Media Player, a video player designed specifically for art galleries and museums informed by his work in AV installation and consultation. Gill's previously held positions include director at Firstdraft Gallery, Sydney in 2010-2012; Kudos Gallery, University of New South Wales in 2013-2016, Production Manager at UNSW Galleries in 2016-2018 and Board member of Safari Sydney 2016-2017.
