On Sunday 24th November 2019 the Freedom Riders WA, together with the Chidlow Tavern are hosting our annual BBQ Prawn Cook-Off, this year we are proudly fundraising for Perth Zoo in support of both their new project ‘future zoo’ and their ongoing commitment to wildlife conservation programs. Our event invites groups of friends, social groups, BBQ teams and (social or charity) Motorbike Clubs to enter a team in the BBQ Prawn Cook-Off and your chance to win 7 NIGHTS IN BALI including flights....

Get involved and join the Freedom Riders at the Chidlow Tavern, where the competition will be red hot, as we put the FUN back into FUNDRAISING. Featuring a live band, Sunday markets from local makers and producers-perfect for getting your Christmas shopping out the way, plus a great raffle and a relaxing afternoon in the sunny beer garden, having a beer and laughs with your mates. Everyone is invited so bring your friends and family to cheer on your team and enjoy our family-friendly event, with free entry for spectators. There is a $20 entry fee per team (which will be 100% donated to Perth Zoo).

Teams can have between 1-5 cooks, multiple teams from the same club are welcome to compete for the coveted honor of being crowned ‘Best BBQ Cooks’ and have your team name added to the preputial Shield. We will release full details of prizes closer to the event, please follow our Facebook event page @chidlowtavern to stay up to date.

What Makes Our BBQ Competition So Hard?

We test both, cooking ability and creativity- as the teams may serve their prawns with any accompaniment they wish, the only rule is; all dishes presented to the judges must include BBQ'd prawns…oh and to spice things up teams must prepare two dishes for the Judges within the time limit

How To Get Involved

Register your team today by contacting us for a registration form and in this pack by emailing katie@chidlowtavern.com.au.  Then complete the form, make payment via Eventbrite, facebook or in cash at the Chidlow Tavern, then you will receive an email confirming your registration and payment. Please ensure your team has read and agree to uphold the event rules listed in this pack.

On The Day

On the day the tavern will be open from 11 am, teams can arrive any time before 12 noon. On arrival teams should check-in and collect their plain boxes to present their dishes for judging.

Once your team is checked in, you are welcome to set up and light your BBQ, however, teams can’t begin cooking until instructed to do so. Please note you must supply your own BBQ, cooking equipment and any ingredients you wish to use.

When all teams are ready the prawns (1 kilo per team) will be handed out, followed by the “start cooking announcement.” Each team must prepare 2 dishes, the first of which must be handed in for judging 1 hour and 15 minutes after barbeque start time, the teams will then receive an additional 15 minutes to complete their second dish and present it for judging. We will provide the Prawns, everything else is up to you…

What Do I Need To Bring?

On arrival, your site will be a blank slate. Please bring your equipment and we encourage you to bring along shelter i.e. Marquees. When choosing your cooking method please note power and cooking equipment are not provided. For guests wishing to join the cruise, please contact Katie to arrange your pre-event equipment drop off time via email katie@chidlowtavern.com.au or phone 0475 796 113.

What about the weather? The event will go ahead in all weather, providing there are no threats to the guest’s health and safety.

Motorbike Cruise- The Run Through The Hills
