Event description

Newcrest Mining’s Cadia Valley Operations is excited to invite you to the next fun-filled Open Day, suitable for the whole family.

Free guided 2.5-hour bus tours will be departing Blayney Shire Community Centre every 10 minutes from 8:30am until 2pm on Saturday 6 April, 2019 heading to the Cadia mine site along with limited tours to the Blayney dewatering facility.

Features of this year’s Open Day mine site tour will include:

  • Expansive machinery display showcasing the site's latest machinery
  • Heavy vehicle workshop in action
  • Cadia's progressive rehabilitation and site tailings storage facilities
  • Panoramic views of the Cadia open pit
  • Blayney Shire Community Centre - interactive displays available from 8:30am to 4:30pm

The Open Day is a fantastic opportunity for the community to experience firsthand the surface mining operations of Cadia. It also provides staff the chance to showcase their workplaces to their family and friends.

An interactive display centre featuring interactive displays, exhibits and presentations hosted by Cadia staff will be available inside the Blayney Shire Community Centre where participants will be able to learn more about Cadia's operations.

The Open Day is a free event, however similar to previous years, donations are strongly encouraged which can be made when booking your tour online or made on the day when boarding your tour bus. In 2019, Cadia will be matching all donations dollar for dollar with all monies raised through this initiative donated to CanAssist Blayney.

CanAssist are committed to ensuring that all country people, regardless of where they live, have access to cancer treatment and care. By providing support for accommodation and financial assistance to people from rural and regional areas, they ensure that country people are given the same opportunities and choices about the kind of treatment they receive as people in larger metropolitan centres.

CONTACT ORGANISERVIEW PROFILE

NEWCREST MINING'S CADIA VALLEY OPERATIONS is one of Australia’s largest gold mining operations and is 100 per cent owned by Newcrest. It is located approximately 25 kilometres from the city of Orange in central west New South Wales and is 250 kilometres west of Sydney. Cadia comprises three mines - the Cadia East underground panel cave mine which commenced commercial production on 1 January 2013, the Ridgeway underground mine (currently on care and maintenance) and the Cadia Hill open pit mine (currently on care and maintenance). At Cadia, Newcrest produces gold doré from a gravity circuit and gold-rich copper concentrates from a flotation circuit. Gold doré from Cadia is refined at the Perth Mint and concentrates are piped to a dewatering plant at nearby Blayney and sent by rail to Port Kembla in New South Wales for export mainly to Eastern Asia. In the financial year ending 30 June 2018, Cadia produced 599,717 ounces of gold and 61,764 tonnes of copper. Over 9 million ounces of gold has been produced from Cadia since commercial production commenced in 1999.
