Event description

Your team will have fun while learning pro cooking tips in the OzHarvest kitchen. This is a hands-on class that teaches scrumptious cuisines and includes sample size portions at the end of the session to showcase the nutritious meals your team have created using fresh produce that would otherwise have been wasted! Phenomenal chefs will guide your team, transforming rescued surplus ingredients into restaurant quality meals that are then delivered directly to local disadvantaged communities. A truly unforgettable activity to re-enforce or re-set your team dynamic, learn new skills, practice sustainability and spread a grateful spirit throughout your workplace.

Each guest will take home the awesome digital Cooking for a Cause recipe book, packed with over 25 recipes and zero-waste tips to continue your sustainable flavour journey at home.

Your impact

Calculated by Bain & Co, our social return on investment (SROI) reveals the true impact OzHarvest is making in the community. For every dollar invested into OzHarvest, food rescue returns $6.75 to the community by cutting the costs of food bills for charitable agencies, which allows their precious finances to be directed into specialised core services. Some of the local agencies that we will redistribute your team's cooked meals to include:

Rough Edges

A service in Darlinghurst that provides a safe place for people on the streets. It’s has an open door policy for anyone to come in and experience warmth, hospitality and connectedness removing barriers of isolation which come with living on the streets. They provide meals to anyone accessing the service.

Church One1Seven

This Redfern church provides small hampers for families experiencing poverty and a weekly Friday dinner service for disadvantaged people in the area.

Newtown Mission

OzHarvest Sydney

OzHarvest is the first perishable food rescue organisation in Australia that collects quality excess food from more than 3,000 commercial outlets and delivers it, direct and free of charge, to more than 1000 charities. We provide much needed assistance to vulnerable men, women and children across Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Newcastle and Perth as well as regional areas. OzHarvest was founded in November 2004 by Ronni Kahn, who was named Australia’s Local Hero of the Year in 2010. OzHarvest has four pillars that direct the work that we do: Rescue - We are on a mission to eliminate hunger and food waste through the redistribution of quality surplus food. Likewise, to provide a framework for food rescue that can be replicated. Educate - Educating and raising awareness about food waste, food rescue, food security and sustainability is central to our vision. Protecting and improving the environment through all our actions matters deeply to us. Promoting nutrition education is paramount. Providing hospitality training and mentoring for disadvantaged youth drives us onwards and upwards, together. Engage - Embracing community support for OzHarvest lies at the heart of our purpose. We offer a range of opportunities for the community to engage with our family. In turn, the goodness spreads through our family, adding purpose to peoples' lives through meaningful action. Innovate - Innovation is at the heart of what we do. Whether its finding new ways and solutions to combat food waste and hunger, to using technology to mobilise everyday Australians to take meaningful action. We pride ourselves on having created a unique for-impact, food rescue model which is being implemented and adapted across the globe.
