Workshop description
Are you looking for classroom-ready resources to connect concepts across the Number substrands of the maths syllabus? This course will empower you with tools and strategies for whole-class differentiated instruction to meet the needs and abilities of all learners.
In this hands-on workshop, Anita Chin will demonstrate how to quickly pull out the main concepts from substrands of the NSW Mathematics K-6 Syllabus. Participants will become the ‘students’ to experience what whole-class differentiated instruction looks, sounds and feels like when connecting concepts across substrands. As participants complete four classroom-ready low-floor, high-ceiling tasks focusing on big ideas in Number, Anita will model how to connect concepts within and across substrands using:
- concrete materials
- rich mathematical language
- visual models
- written recordings
Make it, say it, draw it, write it! Blackline masters and an e-folder of resources provided.
What to bring
- a hard copy of the NSW Mathematics K-6 Syllabus for the Australian Curriculum (the 'orange book')
- post-it notes
- yellow highlighter
- your 6-digit NESA number
