Event description

What does the future of our utilities (power, water, gas etc.) look like in a circular economy?

Do you want to make a positive and meaningful difference in the world by accelerating the transition to a circular economy? Then this event is not to be missed!

The circular economy is emerging in WA, Australia and across the world. But what does it mean in the context of utilities; power, water, gas etc.? For our second Circular Economy Perth event for 2020, we're turning our focus to utilities, and how we will access energy and use water and other materials in an emerging circular economy that is regenerative by intention and design.

Imagine what we could achieve with a network of passionate and engaged people actively working together in transitioning not just WA but across every state in Australia from a linear to a circular model? That's our intention with Circular Economy Perth, which was recently announced as a State Government-funded project in 2020, via the Waste Authority's Community & Industry Engagement funding stream.

Whether you’re working in a relevant sector, run a small business looking to reduce or optimize your plastics consumption and use, passionate about the circular economy or just want to learn more, join us for some great dialogue and networking over breakfast at Curtin University in the Perth CBD.

FEBRUARY'S TOPIC IS CIRCULAR U-TILITIES!

What does our energy future look like? Could we shower with continuously reusable water in our homes? Can we generate water out of thin air? What's happening when it comes to utilities (power, water, gas etc.) and the circular economy?

OUR POWERHOUSE U-TILITIES PRESENTERS & PANELLISTS

We'll be assembling a superstar panel of utilities champions driving the circular economy forward! Announcing more soon!

Ben Stanton, Head of Strategy & Business Development @ Western Power

Ben has a background in strategy and general management, primarily in the building products industry. Ben joined Western Power four years ago when Western Power created an Emerging Technology program. The program was responsible for testing how Western Power could adapt to a more modular network future – it delivered trials of large-scale batteries, stand-alone power systems, and explored non-network solutions.

Ben is Head of Strategy & Business Development at Western Power and is keenly interested in examining how Western Power adapts to future customer expectations.

Genevieve Daneel, Strategic Sustainability Consultant @ Jacobs (NSW)

Genevieve Daneel is a strategic sustainability consultant specialising in resource recovery, with a particular passion for the circular economy. She has recently been involved in working with the Victorian Government to advise on their circular economy policy, guiding the NSW EPA on market opportunities for recycled organics and the future of mixed waste processing in NSW. Genevieve has experience applying the principles of circular economy to create tangible outcomes for utilities providers, such as through developing a prototype circular economy calculator for Sydney Water Corporation.

Genevieve is known in her North Sydney office as the ‘loud eco-warrior’ who will readily pass judgement on those walking past her desk with a disposable coffee cup! She sees a future for utilities providers to move beyond their traditional business models, and harness their potential to capitalise on the resources passing through their infrastructure... let’s see water utilities venture into agriculture by closed-loop insect farming (maggots yum!) and challenge energy providers to ‘mine’ e-waste for renewable technologies.
