Event description

Treat yourself to a day of joyful singing led by composer Sue Johnson (co-founder of Coco's Lunch) to recharge your mind, body and spirit. Sue leads with expertise, warmth and passion, teaching songs with groove and connection.

This workshop is all about tuning in to your voice - and connecting to others.

You will be immersed in the experience of singing in harmony, a rich layering of sound and rhythm, join in chants and improvised soundscapes. Starting with simple warm ups and breathing exercises this workshop is accessible to everyone. For those who like to have scores, they will be available, but the primary method will be aural learning - the ability to read music is absolutely not necessary.

The workshop will be held at Sophia, just outside of the CBD of Adelaide in Cumberland Park and offers a warm, inclusive space where everyone is welcome!

SUE JOHNSON co-founded vocal group Coco’s Lunch, producing seven award-winning CDs of vocal music for adults and children and touring internationally for over two decades. Sue composes for theatre, dance and television, her songs are sung and recorded by choirs worldwide and she directs four Melbourne choirs and tutors at Melbourne University and Melbourne Polytechnic. She is a regular choir director on national tours with Soundtracks Travel and will be leading a tour to India in 2020. This is her first time in South Australia for a decade and we can't wait to welcome her back.

BRING your own lunch to share with others in the garden and by the end of the day you will have made new friends as well as fantastic music together.

This workshop is being hosted by Kay Hannaford and Moira Were who are huge fans of Sue's work having spent a week with her in the Blue Mountains, singing in wild places from mountain tops to caves, finding joy in music with no expectations in a spirit of freedom and improvisation. This workshop is for everyone - the seasoned musical director through the someone who sings in the shower.  We hope you can come to the music with us. Don't miss out and please spread the word!
