Cooking and conversations with Nayran
Event description
Cooking Class by Free to Feed
Free to Feed is a not-for-profit social enterprise who aim to champion the unique skills and individual stories of refugees, people seeking asylum and new migrants. It is through cooking and conversation that their skills and stories are shared. As a apart of our Living not Decorating workshop series, Nayran will be teaching us a few tricks to spice up our repertories. Nayran has journeyed to Australia from Syria and as a child observed her father cooking dinner every single night and the importance of families and friends feasting together is something very close to her heart. Nayran creates wonderfully aromatic and delicious treats – many that she prepared in her bustling Damascus restaurant – and loves to share with anyone willing to try something new.
Living not Decorating is a series of workshops, conversations and ideas presented by Assemble from the 30th of September until the 14th of October. Our workshops are inspired by well-lived and well-loved homes – they’re about living simply and happily by your own design and with others. It’s about practicality before aesthetics and learning new skills. It’s also a nod to our project at 393 Macaulay Rd, Kensington by the iconic architect Harry Norris, for stripping back on the embellishments of the Art Deco buildings of his era and opting for efficiency and simplicity with a ‘Streamline Moderne’ façade that we will be honouring, retaining and restoring.
