Event description

Want to engage with clients who use family violence and are fathers? Are clients blaming others or denying their use of family violence? Feeling stuck or unsure how to respond? Want to work with clients and support them to take responsibility for harm they cause?

This interactive half day training provides workers in any community sector role with opportunities to recognise and reflect on these interactions with fathers who use family violence. We explore the context of men’s use of family violence to understand how clients present and talk about their behaviour. This training explores working with men to become more nurturing and responsible fathers as well as respectful and supportive co-parents. With a focus on increasing safety, we unpack a conversation framework for how we balance maintaining engagement, avoiding collusion and inviting accountability and change.

To attend this training you will have attended the NTV 1 or 2 day Introduction to working with men who use family violence training.

The following content is covered in this workshop:

  • Collaborative dialogue skills working alongside fathers who use family violence to support shifts towards transformative change
  • Practice working with men to become more nurturing and child centered fathers
  • Practice working with men to become more supportive and respectful parenting partners
