Event description

Dear Practitioner,

We would like to invite you to the 2nd Annual Bluebird Education - Snow Sports Medicine Conference which will be held at Yuki Dake Lodge in Myoko Japan from Wed Jan 22 to Fri Jan 24, 2020.

Last year the conference in Hakuba was an absolute blast in every way with a great crew of people, high quality presentations and absolutely amazing snow conditions. Japan is a bucket list must if you love to ski or snowboard.

Having done a side trip to Myoko after the conference I have decided to move it there for a number of reasons such as walking distance to two of the main resorts (closest being very family friendly), the varied terrain of other resorts such as Madarao & Tangrem (epic tree skiing) and Lotte Arai (big above alpine open bowls) and the most snow fall of all the Japanese ski resorts this past season!

The Conference is open to all Sports Medicine practitioners and there will be presentations from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on all three evening’s with apres-ski nibble platters and refreshments on offer from 6:15. On the last night the last night there will also be an all-inclusive cocktail party at Jacks bar to close the event.

Topics and presentations scheduled thus far:

  • Dry Needling - Presentation will include both theory, including a review of current evidence, and live demonstration components. The course will be run by qualified Instructor Marty McCullock (Osteopath) from CPD Health Courses and owner of The Clinic Osteopathy, a practice based in the Wollongong CBD

  • Running Technique - Presentation overview using treadmill video analysis to assess gait and running technique with the intention of treating running injuries and increasing performance which can be advantageous when treating a wide range of patients from kids with knee pain, to weekend warriors and up to the elite running level.
Included will be videos showing poor vs good technique, discussion about proper running posture, and demonstration of exercises that can help strength and speed with running. Mark Anderson, from Hunter Osteopathy, is an Osteopath with a keen interest in working with runners of all abilities and ages

  • Knowing where to start, and when to stop, in order to maximise a person's healing response - Presentation will be by experienced Chiropractor Rod McLean from Rod McLean Chiropractic.  Rod grew up in Cooma where his love of ice and snow began as a child and he started skiing regularly in 1968. He has been praciticing as a Chiropractor for 36 years and uses various Chiropractic techniques. He is also an Activator Chiropractor and is an instructor in the Activator Technique since 2001, so uses an Activator instrument and Activator protocols to adjust, rather than 'crack', backs. He also has a strong interest in the effect of body-mind and I use Kinesiology and Energetics as integral aspects in his work

  • Extra Corporeal Shockwave Therapy - Presentation which will include a brief history/over-view of the treatment, an explanation on the mechanism of action, key touch points of various presentations cataloged over the last ten years and a discussion around the business case/model for E/RSWT as an adjunct therapy. As an experienced Medical Device industry representative with almost ten years experience in directly selling the EMS Dolorclast RSWT device in NSW/ACT (where I was the main driver in the successful installation and uptake of almost 100 units over this time period) I not only have an in-depth general knowledge of what E/RSWT is but what type of Practice, and Practitioner, this treatment is best suited for as well as a strong understanding of the business model.

If anyone attending, or interested in attending, would like to present please feel free to say hello and call or email me with any ideas or topics.

The registration fee is $295 + gst and will include:

  • Light food and beverages at the beginning of each seminar

  • An all-inclusive premium canape (food had rave reviews last year!) and beer/wine dinner party on the Friday evening from 8:30-11:30pm. Partners and friends are welcome to attend with the purchase of an additional dinner party ticket for $75 + gst

  • 2018/19 seasons accommodation rates at Yuki Dake Lodge and and direct access to our own booking agent at Liquid Snow Tours (who own Yuki Dake and a number of other venues across Japan) who can help you book your accommodation and if you like also help with your flights, rental equipment and any other accommodation requirements in Japan that you may require during your trip

  • 10% off all rental and retail at Joey’s Myoko, a specialist ski and snowboard demo and service shop based right in the hear of Myoko. Demoing some powder skis or snowboard is a must as it really turns-on powder conditions for you and allows you to get the most fun out of the conditions.  Joey’s not only has premium rentals but they are also known for boot fitting and tuning while also having specialty retail items for the Japanese winter conditions.

Our Group room rates for the conference are:

- Twin Room $315.50 PP
- Triple Room $276.00 PP
- 4 Share Bunk room $237.00 PP
- 6 Share Bunk room $217.00 PP

Please note PP mean Per-Person, the minimum booking is for three nights (the per night rate can be extended for as many additional nights pre or post conference) and Western breakfast is included. In my opinion this a must as while I love Japanese food, I feel it misses the mark a little at breakfast!

Kind Regards,
Roland
