Unleash your creativity while making a social impact

Eager to get creative and meet new people? Learn new skills and bring your creative projects to fruition with well-established artists and filmmakers from a refugee background. 

You’re invited to participate in one of two interactive 6-week creative workshops at the Welcome Creative Hub at the Community Refugee Welcome Centre (CRWC) in Lilyfield.

Learn the art of filmmaking or puppetry in workshops run by talented local artists with refugee backgrounds.

Workshops begin on Monday, 6 May and run weekly on Mondays from 5:30-7: 30 pm for 6 weeks.

This is the perfect after-school or after-work activity where you can relax, have fun and get creative in an inclusive environment.

Tickets are $30 ($5 per session).

Iranian artist and engineer Majid Rabet will pair technology with art during workshops, using innovation to help you bring some edge to your art projects.

Gain the gung-ho to shoot films through a smartphone, and small DSLR camera with Iraqi-born experienced filmmaker Ali Al Azeez. You’ll discover how to develop a concept and bring your creative vision to reality through film.

Your creative works produced during the filmmaking and puppetry workshops will be showcased at the SSI New Beginnings Winter Festival as part of Open Inner West.

The Welcome Creative Hub is a project run by the *Community Refugee Welcome Centre (CRWC) in close collaboration with Settlement Services International (SSI) and is supported by funding from the Inner West Council.

Workshops


Create-A-Puppet

Through a series of workshops, learn how to create dolls, handbags and other handicrafts from scratch.

From recycled materials, you will combine your creativity and innovation to produce your unique products.

Derived from the workshops your creative projects and works will form part of a permanent art installation featured at the Centre.

F.I.Y. (Film It Yourself)

Learn how to F.I.Y. (Film It Yourself) with professional videographers Ali Azeez and Mohammed Alanezi.

You’ll gain the skills to create and shoot films through a smartphone and small DSLR camera.

Discover how to develop a concept or idea, and bring your creative vision to reality through film.
