Event description

About this session:

A great idea isn’t just words on a page.

In today’s competitive funding landscape developing the skill to communicate complex ideas to non-specialist grant reviewers is becoming increasingly important.

The process of distilling the essence of a complex research grant proposal into a short, plain English pitch can help researchers identify and articulate the main messages they want reviewers not just to understand, but be persuaded by.

In Getting Pitch Perfect you’ll discover new skills, techniques and what to avoid.

The session features an NHMRC Ideas pitch by Dr. Lana McClements, an interdisciplinary researcher from the School of Life Sciences. Lana’s translational research aims to develop better monitoring, risk stratification and treatment strategies for high-risk pregnancies, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

To hear then deconstruct the pitch will be an interdisciplinary panel of UTS academic and professional staff with broad expertise in biochemistry, molecular vascular biology, pharmacotherapeutics, maternal health, and media and communications.

The session will be interactive, too. As a participant, you’ll get to evaluate the pitch using Mentimeter and engage in Q&A with Lana and the panel.

All UTS academics are encouraged to attend what is sure to be an entertaining and informative session.

A light lunch will be provided for registered participants.
