How can we fix our failing national environmental laws?

Even before the devastating bushfires of this summer, Australia’s biodiversity was in a poor condition and has been in decline for decades. After 20 years in operation our national environmental law, the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) has failed to reverse these trends.
The 20 year review of the EPBC Act, currently underway, is an opportunity to ask whether the Act is adequate to protect our unique biodiversity and the ecological processes upon which life depends.
Join us on Thursday 20 February 2020 to hear from experts from the Environmental Defenders Office and the UQ Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Science, reflecting on how well our laws are currently operating, what changes may be needed to protect our environmental values, and how we can best engage with this review to ensure it leads to meaningful changes. There will also be plenty of time for questions and discussion.
