——————————

The world is faced with an increasing number of economic, social and environmental challenges.

We must transition to a more sustainable future. Lets talk about how!

Join us to learn about some real world transition projects and their use of different approaches, such as circular economy and story-telling to support transitioning to a more sustainable future.

Presenters

Rodger Watson (ThinkPlace)

Rodger Watson is Senior Executive Designer at ThinkPlace where he leads their Strong Economies SDG Cluster. Rodger is working on a number of circular economy projects that bring together technical innovation, collective impact, and systems change to support the transition to a circular economy. He will share some recent experiences and reflections of being a designer in this space, including working across three tiers of government, and collaborating with the Private Sector and Universities.

Rodger is an Associate of the UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures, a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of the Arts London and is co-author of Designing for the common good.

Chris Riedy (UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures)

Chris Riedy is Professor of Sustainability Governance and Director of Graduate Research at the Institute for Sustainable Futures, University of Technology Sydney. He is a transdisciplinary academic with a research interest in governance and social change for sustainable futures. Chris draws on sociological and political theory, narrative theory and futures thinking to design, facilitate and evaluate practical experiments in transformative change towards sustainable futures. Chris is Lead Steward of the Metanarrative Working Group of the SDG Transformation Forum, which is working to design transformation systems to meet and exceed the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Chris will talk about the role of storytelling and narrative in facilitating transformation towards a sustainable future, drawing on our recent work for the City of Sydney on Sustainable Sydney 2050 and ongoing research into the form of emerging sustainability narratives.
