Event description

About this session:

Are you a researcher that wants to influence policy? Are you a researcher that wants to positively transform society?

This workshop will be a unique opportunity to hear the perspective of the kind of senior policy stakeholder that many researchers seek to know and understand, but often do not have ready access to. In addition, this will be an open and inclusive discussion between likeminded researchers around how we might go about our research engagements with policy makers in the most effective way - as individuals, teams and as a leading public university of technology.

Ben Gales - Executive Director, Strategic Coordination, Department of Premier and Cabinet - will open the session by giving his perspective, as a policy maker, on how universities can most effectively engage with end users and policy makers. Ben’s address will be an honest and frank appraisal of engagement from someone who has been a critical user of university research. This will be a unique, opportunity to hear from an influential end user.

The remainder of the workshop will revolve around a group discussion session moderated by George Argyrous (Manager, Research and Evaluation, Institute for Public Policy and Governance), and Julian Zipparo (Executive Manager, Faculty Research Engagement). The aim of the discussion will be to explore how individual researchers can best engage with end-users.

A light lunch will be provided for registered participants.
