This 3-hour masterclass will deep dive into impact investment and measurement for a Western Australian audience including family offices, foundations, NFPs and government agencies. The focus group for this masterclass is executive and board level management investors and funders across these sectors (upcoming workshops will focus social enterprises and social entrepreneurs).

Co-hosted by sector leaders, Impact Investment Group and Impact Seed, it will also introduce a first of its kind partnership for impact investment, social innovation, and social enterprise development in WA for 2019.

The progress and nexus of Impact Investment
The spectrum of business structures
The spectrum of deal structures
The spectrum of impact investment types such as debt, equity, funds and social impact bonds using case studies and examples

Masterclass Part 2:

The spectrum of “pay for success” models (including social impact bonds)
Impact measurement frameworks including SROI, IRIS, B-Lab (BCorp), and UN Sustainable Development Goals
Fiduciary Duties in the context of mission aligned investments
Mission-aligned balance sheets & asset allocation

Opportunities for impact investment in Western Australia, and how Impact Investment Group and Impact Seed are working together

This afternoon session will conclude with drinks and light refreshments, with the opportunity for one on one discussions with the team from Impact Investment Group and Impact Seed.

Impact Investing is investments made with the intention to generate actively-measured social and environmental impacts alongside a financial return. The result is a shift from ‘bottom line’ to ‘triple bottom line’ thinking. It has proven successful internationally and across Australia and this event also presents an opportunity to partner in WA's first social innovation hub developing and investing in WA social enterprises and impact projects.

About the presenters:

Dan Madhavan (CEO, Impact Investment Group)

Dan joined IIG in 2017 after almost 3 years serving as the founding CEO of Impact Investing Australia, an independent non-profit organisation dedicated to growing and developing impact investing as a field and ecosystem. Previously, he had a distinguished 12-year career at JB Were and Goldman Sachs JB Were, where he served in a variety of roles including as Acting CEO, COO, and Head of NSW.

Dan is also Chair of YGAP, a non-profit organization supporting impact entrepreneurs in developing countries, and is a Director of Sanfilippo Childrens Foundation.

Kylie Hansen (Founding & Executive Director, Impact Seed)

Kylie is a passionate advocate and leading capacity builder across the WA not-for-profit, government, social enterprise sectors, and is well recognised for her high quality impact in these areas over the past 10 years.

Kylie leads Impact Seed's impact and outcomes measurement agenda, supporting social enterprises and purpose driven organisations, impact investors and investees to fully understand, articulate and measure their impact.

Kylie sits on a number of WA boards and committees, including Linkwest, SCALES Community Legal Centre, AIESEC WA Board of Advice, the Fairbridge Centre for Social Innovation, the Social Impact Measurement Network – Western Australia, and the Alumni for Social Impact at UWA, and is a former mentor with the School for Social Entrepreneurs, and former CEO of Cambodian-Australian social enterprise Empowering Communities. She holds Graduate Certificates in Social Impact and Project Management; Bachelor of Community Development; Bachelor of Commerce; Bachelor of Arts, and Juris Doctor (Postgraduate Law) UWA.
