The standard MHFA is held in the Torrens room at the historical Adelaide Inn in North Adelaide. (Free parking available)   The sessions times are 9am to 4.30pm both days with morning and afternoon tea provided plus there is a 1 hour lunch break to explore O'Connell Street. The course fee includes a MHFA manual and your writing materials.

The 12-hour Mental Health First Aid course teaches adults (18 years and over) how to provide initial support to adults who are developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis. The course curriculum is based on the MHFA Guidelines.

Most professionals can claim attendance at a MHFA course for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) with their industry body. The Standard Mental Health First Aid Course has been endorsed for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points for a number of professions see the full list here .

Course participants learn about the signs and symptoms of the common and disabling mental health problems, how to provide initial help, where and how to get professional help, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.

Mental health problems covered • Depression • Anxiety problems • Psychosis • Substance use problems Mental health crises covered • Suicidal thoughts and behaviours • Non-suicidal self-injury • Panic attacks • Traumatic events • Severe psychotic states • Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use • Aggressive behaviours.

Any interested adult can attend. Please note this course is not a therapy or support group, rather it is an education course to learn how to give first aid to others.
