Modern slavery - today's greatest threat to human rights? Be a UN Delegate for a day to debate this vital topic.
Date and Time
Take part in this simulation of the United Nations General Assembly to debate the international cooperation needed to tackle this modern day phenomenon - which can include forced labour, human trafficking, forced marriage, illegal adoptions and organ removal.
"Target 8.7 of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals calls for us to work together to end these unacceptable violations of human rights". (https://www.alliance87.org/)
No country is immune from the scourge of modern slavery - developing countries are potential sources of trafficked people and locations for men, women and children forced into unpaid labour or marriage. However, developed countries can supply the markets for illegal organ removal and child adoptions. Human trafficking also frequently occurs from less developed countries to more developed countries.
This will be a great opportunity to learn more about modern slavery and its impacts across the globe.
Take this opportunity to step into the shoes of UN country ambassadors and draw upon negotiation and diplomacy skills to ensure the views of these countries are heard. As UN delegates, you will interact with other delegates during the caucus sessions, present your country’s position to the General Assembly and move amendments to a Draft UN Resolution. The Model UN provides an engaging, dynamic environment for participants to explore this topic, the world of international relations, the UN system and global challenges associated with upholding human rights today.
Preparation packs for all participants will be distributed by UNAA Victoria in the weeks prior to the conference. Delegates will be allocated a country to represent and will be connected by UNAAV to work together in teams of 2 or 3 people to present their countries stance.
N.B: The email address you provide at registration will be the email used to connect you with your allocated country team members.
Refunds are available 7 days prior to the event
