MusicACT and the Association of Artist managers Australia have partnered to create a free music managers session for you!

Working with established managers and local artists to talk about the ins and out of the role, the artist manager relationship and responsibilities.

The panel will feature - One Louder artist manager Mel Cheng (Alex The Astronaut, Ball Park Music, Kate Miller - Heidke and Paul Kelly), Shannen Egan (MusicACT, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, The Lazy Susans and Sputnik Sweetheart) and will be facilitated by Trina Massey from the AAM.

Mel Cheng is an Artist Manager at One Louder, working across all facets of the careers of Paul Kelly, Ball Park Music and Alex the Astronaut. In 2017, she relocated to Shanghai to work as a Festival Co-ordinator for China-based promoter Split Works on their annual music festival Concrete & Grass. Since 2011, Mel has been a lecturer and course convener at the Australian Institute of Music (AIM) specialising in artist management, intellectual property law and contractual law. She has a background in music and entertainment law and is currently an admitted lawyer of the Supreme Court of NSW.

Trina Massey is an arts professional with a diverse range of expertise across the contemporary music industry. Initially starting her career as a venue booker, Trina diversified into artist management, event management and in 2012 founded indie record label ‘Smack Face Records’. In 2015 Trina become the producer for QMusic’s Queensland Music Awards (QMA’S) before joining the organisation fulltime as the Program Manager. During her two years with QMusic, Trina specialised in strategy and performance for key projects including Industry Connect, BIGSOUND, Little BIGSOUND and the QMA’s. Trina now works for the AAM as the professional development manager, rolling out development and export market programs for Australian Music Managers across Australia.

Shannen Egan is an artist developer. She has worked on the professional development program over at MusicACT for a year with the role of the program manager. She also runs an artist management agency ‘Turning Heads’ which includes Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, The Lazy Susans & Sputnik Sweetheart. For 2 years Shannen has run a local promotion platform ‘CBR DIG’ which supported and booked ACT contemporary artists in the community.
