All sessions include fun, hands-on and interactive training activities.

Upon completion of a day course participants will receive comprehensive course handouts and a course certificate.

Course outline:

• Propagating, planting and growing techniques for vegetables, fruit trees and herbs

• Soil improvements, composting, worm farming, fertilisers, sprays and potting mixes. Participants will learn practical skills that can be used in their Houses to make their own garden products and save on garden expenses

• Setting up garden infrastructures – setting up garden beds, use of shade houses, propagation houses, poly tunnel houses, use of netting, watering systems etc.

• Troubleshooting – addressing common gardening problems including pests and diseases

Trainers

Michael Cook – Michael is a qualified horticulturist and qualified workplace trainer and assessor. He has been teaching local and international food growing skills for over 25 years.

Sonia Cook – Sonia is a qualified teacher and workplace trainer and assessor and has qualifications in counselling, community development and mental health. Sonia coordinates and teaches accredited mental health qualifications.

Morning tea and lunch will be included on the day
