Event description

Day 1: Tuesday 12 May 2020 (9.30M - 1.30PM) - Planning a Quantitative Research Project

Day 2: Wednesday 13 May 2020 (9.30AM - 5PM) - Design of Experiments

FacilitatorA/Prof Tapan Rai

Suitable for beginning HDR students who are interested in designing and analysing an experiment with a measurable (quantitative) outcome. You may register to attend Day 1 only or both Day 1 & Day 2.

Day 1:Planning a Quantitative Research Project

This is a half-day workshop emphasizes the importance of developing a statistical analysis plan for a research project and its relationship to the determination of sample size for their project.

Students will be encouraged to consider their own research questions, consider how they will address these and guided through the theoretical and practical aspects of determining sample size based on their data and analysis plans.

Day 2:
Design of Experiments

Students who complete day 2 workshop will be able to:
• Develop research questions with measurable outcomes
• Design an experiment to test specific research questions
• Fine-tune their experiment by considering confounding factors
• Develop a statistical analysis plan
• Determine sample size
• Analyse data obtained from an experiment and explain the results

Students are advised to do the online LinkedIn Learning on SPSS or R (as appropriate) prior to coming to this short course.

Tea, coffee and light snacks will be provided during this event.
