Event description

Setting up A and B Choices:

In Focus Professional Development Workshop

This In Focus Workshop is designed for professionals who have a sound understanding of autism and want a better understanding of how to effectively set up A and B Choices in their setting.

Presented by experienced Autism Consultants, participants learn how to use the strengths of people on the spectrum to utilise programs and strategies such as ‘The Way to A ©’ and Social Behaviour Mapping.

The workshop demonstrates how to teach people on the spectrum what ‘A’ and ‘B’ choices are, or what ‘expected’ and ‘unexpected’ choices are, and how to increase positive choices in a range of educational and community settings. These programs and strategies can be implemented for individuals on the spectrum, to groups of people, and as whole site approaches.

All participants will receive a certificate with the workshop title, the number of hours and will state that the training links to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (where appropriate).

Autism SA is pleased to announce that all workshops are being run as live online webinars in place of face to face workshops.

As each scheduled workshop approaches, registered participants will receive all the training materials required for that workshop, including a PDF of the PowerPoint. Participants will need a computer with internet access to join the webinar, but will not be required to download any software. Prior to the workshop participants will receive step-by-step instructions on how to access the webinar they have registered for.

General Workshops are designed to give participants a better understanding of autism.  These sessions present a broad range of effective strategies that participants can use to improve their practice when working with individuals on the spectrum. These workshops are suited to participants who have not attended previous Autism SA workshops.

In Focus Workshops are designed for participants who have a good general knowledge and understanding of autism. These sessions are for those wanting to enhance their professional practice by developing skills to support individuals in specific areas relating to autism. It is recommended that participants first attend a General Workshop prior to attending an In Focus Workshop.

Autism SA has a highly experienced and diverse training team which includes consultants, occupational therapists, speech pathologists and facilitators who have extensive experience in working with individuals on the autism spectrum in a range of settings.
