Event description

STEAM Dreaming is a community festival using science and space technology to inspire and engage kids, families, teachers & schools, and local businesses.

With it’s glorious steampunk Dark Emu among the stars, STEAM Dreaming incorporates indigenous Australian astronomy, ecology and environmental sustainability, and explores how ancient wisdom is paving the way for Australia’s space-age future.

Launching in Armidale in February 2020, we have set a goal of sending 48 local kids, plus parents and teachers, to Space Camp USA in September 2020. Our vision in not just to excite students to pursue careers in science and technology, but show them that the sky is the limit - that they are capable of greatness in leadership, creative problem-solving, lateral thinking, team building and resilience.

Our second vision is to inspire local businesses to using sustainability strategies, become Carbon Neutral and ultimately become the first carbon neutral CBD in Australia. Working alongside council's and UNE's zero30 strategy.

With collaborations from the University of New England, collaborations and direction from our local Elders and Indigenous Australian academic community, support from the Armidale Regional Council, hosted by Australia’s first Carbon Neutral accommodation provider, the City Centre Motor Inn Armidale, and powered by One Giant Leap Australia, STEAM Dreaming will become an annual destination event for the region, keeping Armidale at the forefront of education and innovation, even as we send our kids out to reach for the stars.

There will be two spaces on the day, the first will featuring the STEAM Dreaming program (soon to be released). The second space will be designed to entertain and inspire children. With workshops from Coder Academy and Destination Imagination your children will leave feeling inspired and connected.

Program details to be released soon and tickets to go on sale in January 2020.
