Experiment Materials List

These are the things you will need to join in with our experiments. This list gives the amounts you will need per person (or per small group). Make sure you have some space on a table away from your device!

MATERIALS LIST

A plastic cup (it’s important that it has a smooth lip)
A tub or container with water in it
Something that floats on water and fits in your cup (like a ping pong ball)
A few tissues
A tray for spills and a towel for drying hands
Paper or cardboard (for example from a cereal box)
Scissors
A coin
Some rocks or pebbles (you can also use shells, chalk, sea glass, wood, or whatever you have that you’re allowed to make scratches on)
Three clear cups or glasses
Two clear plastic bottles (like from soft drink or bottled water) with the bottom third cut off
Two kitchen cleaning wipes OR an old pair of stockings
Two elastic/rubber bands
Some dirt or soil
½ cup each of two different materials to use as filters (sand is a great one, you could also use gravel, pebbles, uncooked rice, beans, lentils)
1 cup of water
a few teaspoons of baking soda
½ cup of vinegar
A spoon
A plastic or paper plate
A cardboard roll (like from toilet paper or paper towel)
A ping pong ball (or some other light ball that you can balance on top of the cardboard roll – you can even try making a ball from aluminium foil)
Sticky tape or masking tape

How do I connect?

These programs will be run via Zoom Webinar. After you book you will receive an email with details of how to join the session.

For interactivity and child safety, please join using an adult's email address, your child’s first name, and NO last name.

HOW DO THESE SESSIONS WORK?

Attendees will be able to see and hear our presenter(s) but we won’t be able to see or hear you. You will get lots of chances to ask and answer questions via text-based Q&A and live polling. You can download the Zoom app and test your connection here.

Do I have to supervise my child?

As a supervising adult, you acknowledge that you are responsible for the behaviour of the participants. You acknowledge that the Fizzics Education presenter is not a substitute for on-site parental supervision.

Younger children may need assistance with the hands-on activities. If you are not confident that your child can work alone with the materials listed, please provide supervision.

Refunds

Fizzics will provide a full refund only if the event is rescheduled or cancelled. We cannot refund tickets, but name changes on tickets are acceptable. Fizzics reserves the right to review all requests for refunds on a discretionary basis.
