Join us for our next Supporting Indigenous Communities Donor Circle, Mass Incarceration Nation: Addressing Over-Imprisonment and Deaths in Custody.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in this country are now the most incarcerated people in the world. They are dying in custody at an alarming rate. People who are poor, homeless and have a disability are also over-represented. Almost 100% of incarcerated women are family violence victims and we lock up more of our children than comparable countries.
But we can reverse these trends, as other countries have.
Melanie Poole, Executive Officer of Change the Record, and Amanda Porter, independent researcher and proud descendant of the Brinja clan of the Yulin nation, will lead a conversation that outlines the work being undertaken to end this failed system and share the evidence-led solutions that build safe, strong communities that should be pursued instead.
This event will be held on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
