Event description

TEDxCanberra returns for an evening of inspiring talks and performances exploring the idea of 'home'.

Why is the 'home' integral to human security, a functioning society, and overall health and well-being?

OUR SPEAKERS

Dion Devow

What does 'home' mean for Indigenous Australians? Dion Devow will discuss if we can process the idea of home and the statement that there is no place like home, when many of Australia’s Indigenous peoples were forcibly removed from their homes and countries many years ago.

Dion is of both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage, and was 2018 ACT Australian of the Year, and will explore this in terms of his own Indigeneity, and invite us to embrace and celebrate Indigenous Australian cultures as our own, and as a part of being Australian.

Frances Crimmins

How can we end homelessness?
The answer: we prevent it.

Frances Crimmins, CEO of YWCA Canberra, and a feminist with a strong belief in social justice, will be taking the stage at our upcoming TEDxCanberraSalon event on 27 July.

Frances believes that we each have a role to play in solving our community’s greatest challenges, and will be sharing her ideas on how we can come together to alleviate housing issues and prevent homelessness in the ACT.

Mia Swainson

One week. One litre of rubbish. One house with two adults and three children. Impossible challenge?

Mia Swainson is one of the inspiring speakers at our upcoming TEDxCanberraSalon: No Place Like Home event. Founding Chair of Canberra's Zero Waste Revolution and President of the Canberra Environment Centre, Mia takes us on her family's zero waste journey and shares practical tips she's picked up along the way.
