Event description

The Grove's Dojo #5 - Equity as a path to Equality, why does it matter?

We welcome you to join us at The Grove for Dojo #5 deeply exploring Equity, as a path to Equality - why does it matter?

In this ‘place of practice’ we will be generating a heart-led conversation regarding equity. Eileen Reed, an African American Elder and special friend from Cincinnati, Ohio will be in circle with us to share her direct experiences and speak into the importance of equity as an aspiration. Together we will ask why equity? What does equity mean to us as individuals and as a society? And why would we keep talking about it?

History is littered with examples of inequity and the resulting fall out. Why is this the case, and what can we do differently now?

According to PolicyLink’s manifesto equity is just and fair inclusion into a society in which all can participate, prosper, and reach their full potential. Unlocking the promise of the nation by unleashing the promise in us all.

Equity rubs up against perception, experience, choice, commitment and more. Engaging in this embodied dialogue has the potential to surface our collective wisdom, give us genuine understanding of why equity matters to us and motivate our actions in daily life.

More about the Grove's Dojo:
The Dojo is 'a house of practice, a place for pursuit of the Way'. A place where The Grove, a community of practitioners, change agents, innovators, intrapreneurs, leaders and active members of civil society, meets to learn through practice.

Learning new ways of being and doing is increasingly vital as we seek to meet the challenges of today, and co-create the emerging future. A distinct feature of The Grove’s Dojo is our intention to learn by doing, in a supportive environment with others.  We can then move into other places, where we do our work within organisations, groups and communities better equipped to bring new possibilities and potentialities into being.

Here's what some participants from previous Dojo’s said:

"Loved it.. I really enjoyed the experience and opportunity to connect on a more intimate level"

"I took away the willingness to step into the space for deeper conversation, more aware that it's not so difficult to create this in day to day life"

"The Dojo is a conscious connected community experiment"

"It's a place you can go to 'work out' your mind, body and interpersonal skills, in the company of others doing the same.
