The Rainforest Action Group presents ¡Fiesta!

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

¡Fiesta! is a night to celebrate community, solidarity and the reason we fight...
... It is a call out to come together in support of our most biodiverse treasure, the Ecuadorian Amazon and Andean Cloud forests and all the indigenous communities who depend on them. These forests and the communities they sustain are threatened by mining concessions awarded to many Australian-owned corporations.

Funds from this event will be used in Rainforest Actions Group’s campaign to protect these forests! Plus it’s our first birthday and we want to celebrate!

One of the big projects that this gig will help support is the completion of the film Marrow of the Mountain - a documentary on the impact to local communities of expanding large-scale mining in northwest of Ecuador, with a focus on the unique Choco Rainforest and the impacts of mining on women.

8pm – Acknowledgement of country + intro to the Rainforest Action Group
Short talk about the Rainforest Action Group's campaign in Ecuador

8.30pm - "BHP - The Musical" + "The Inaugural Dodgy Miners Awards"

To get a sense of the chaotic hilarity in store, imagine an unholy marriage between Dr Suess's Lorax and the Little Shop of Horrors, with puppets, performers and a horde of zombiefied mining execs. Characters from The Lorax thanks to the Wolfgang’s Theatre Company, with excerpts from their Lorax production.

9.30 pm - Miss Colombia

Miss Colombia is tropical electro funk made in Melbourne, Australia. Inspired on South American electronica and psychedelic tropical culture, Miss Colombia's sound combines elements of the Caribbean grandeur with an electronic, funky, psychedelic and hip-hop feel.

Famous for its themed exotic shows Miss Colombia’s appearance is visually explosive, colourful, carnivalesque with a South American, street party feel. Miss Colombia’s expression is born out of theatricality, so no appearance is conceived in the same way as the other.
