The "Cost of Caring" workshop including a Networking Lunch

Event description

"Secondary trauma" or "vicarious trauma" AKA "The cost of caring" is often the effect of witnessing a perceived traumatic event.

Think about it like this "The expectation that you can be immersed in suffering & loss daily and not be affected by it is as unrealistic as walking through water, and expecting not to get wet" in today’s society we are witnessing more horrible and confronting news and events than ever via media and the internet.

The current bush fire season has had a ripple effect across the whole of Australia exposing many people to danger, risk of death, and other flow on effects causing fear for their future which will be felt for a long time to come. Even if you haven’t been directly affected, it’s likely you’ll be supporting someone who has been at some point this year.

The aim of this workshop is to provide an understanding of how such traumas can affect those of us in supporting roles, in the community and in our businesses and how to reduce ‘compassion fatigue’. It will be practical, pragmatic and have "take away's" for all businesses.
