ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

As a valued supporter of the Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC), we warmly invite you to attend the TLC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday 24 November 2019 at 2.00pm at the John Webb Room, Hadley’s Orient Hotel, 34 Murray Street, Hobart. The general business of the AGM will be conducted along with a special resolution recommending one amendment to the TLC constitution. The 2019 Honorary Life Members will also be announced.
This will also be the final AGM for Chair Stuart Barry, who is stepping down from the TLC Board after completing the ten-year maximum term.

‘SOUNDS OF NATURE’ DISCUSSION

Following the AGM please join us for a panel discussion on the role of sound in conservation generally and the TLC’s work more specifically.

Acoustic monitoring has become part of the suite of monitoring resources the TLC uses to track the health of its reserves. Listening to the sounds of nature gives us a vital pathway into understanding the importance of conservation and provides a channel for our artistic response to the world around us.

A viewing of the TLC’s ‘Sounds of Nature’ short film will be followed by a discussion between Dr Sally Bryant, Sue Lovegrove and Dr Douglas Quin, facilitated by the TLC’s CEO, James Hattam.

Dr Sally Bryant is the TLC’s outgoing Head of Science and an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Tasmania. She is on the Editorial Board of the journal Ecological Management & Restoration and her popular ABC Radio wildlife program has been running fortnightly since 1999. Sue Lovegrove is a visual artist whose work explores her relationship to place, in particular the landscape of Tasmania. Her latest book, The Voice of Water, celebrates and pays homage to the beauty and ephemeral life of wetlands. Professor Douglas Quin is a sound designer, naturalist, public radio commentator, educator and music composer. For the past 30 years Doug has travelled widely documenting the natural soundscape—from Antarctic ice to Arctic tundra and from African savannah to Amazon rainforest.

Refreshments will be served at the event. TLC members and supporters are welcome.
