We are here to create a conversation about how to train powerfully around your period. Learn to understand this key cycle to stop fighting human biology, and start doing more of what you love, in a smarter way that works and maximises results in and out of the gym.
Periods matter, period. Here is why we should be talking about them.
I trained a lot, like 3-4 hours a day. 6-7 days a week. Olympic lifting: Some days I crushed it, other times, it crushed me and eventually, it took a toll on me. I got injured and dislocated my rib. I couldn’t even move freely, let alone train.
After watching a webinar by my fellow Aussie Claire baker on ‘understanding your inner seasons’ I started to pay attention to my cycle.
I would write the DAY of my cycle at the top of my training diary. After a few months, I could see patterns in terms of how I felt and how the training went. These patterns helped me understand where I was in my cycle and what was happening with my hormones. This became my SUPERPOWER.
I started to understand my body better.
I realised that if I tweaked my training to honour these changing needs of my body, I got stronger, fewer injuries and had more energy.
I felt like a female warrior.
We aren’t taught how to navigate the world of periods and training. In fact, it’s rare that I meet any coach or a female athlete that’s been educated on training around their menstrual cycle. Most women consider their period to be a burden as far as training goes as if they fight against each other.
Whether you are an Athlete or a Coach, understanding this balance is critical. Through this you can know your cycle.
