Event description

UHAMBO, A Journey to Africa is a new collaboration with Dancey Dance Time presented by Thuba Ndibali.  Thuba Ndibali will collaborate with the Dancey Dance Time group for the screening of a short film directed by Thuba Ndibali.

Uhambo is a short film about a youth embarking on a journey of discovery of his own culture after being in Australia for 10 years. It explores the idea of reconnecting with people of his origin, through dance and culture.

UHAMBO, A Journey to Africa will be a celebration of Ndebele traditions taking audiences on a journey from Zimbabwe while fusing a cross multi-cultural exchange with the visuals of live dance across countries and continents.

Thuba Ndibali is a Choreographer, Dancer and Award-Winning Director. Grew up in the township in the second biggest city Bulawayo in Zimbabwe. He was heavily influenced by the street corner dancers commonly known as Pansulas in Southern parts of Africa. With Pansula being his signature style, when Thuba arrived in Australia in 2008, he was exposed to other styles such as popping, ticking, bone breaking which were quite identical to Pansulas.

Dancey Dance Time is a newly established group made up of African Australian Inner West based artist who share a vision to combine their values for staying connected to their roots and acknowledging them as the foundation that has influenced their practise.

Le Prime Pop UP make available their range of original designs on caps, tees and signature African print Bum Bags. Its main purpose at UHAMBO, A Journey to Africa is the support & give a local label a platform to showcase the diversity of creators providing an interment apparel experience.
