Event description

This working group will focus on 'What Industry 4.0 can do for Maintenance'

For too many companies, maintenance productivity has hardly moved for years.
New technologies can help.
Industry 4.0 is a catch-all term for a wide range of technologies and approaches, including the networked sensors and devices that make up the Internet of Things, big data and advanced analytics approaches, and new digitally enabled manufacturing techniques. Many of those things have potential applications in maintenance.

Advanced analytics techniques can forecast failures using information sources and data that were not previously accessible, or even available.

It is now possible, for example, to combine information in shift handover reports, production schedules, and changes in the weather to predict when equipment failures are likely to occur. That could have a huge impact.

Tablet computers and wearable displays can give technicians immediate access to critical information as they work. Advances in wireless networking and display technologies mean those systems are becoming increasingly powerful.

Then there's additive manufacturing, or 3D printing, which is already transforming some maintenance supply chains by allowing spare parts or specialist tools to be printed on site, on demand. Improvements in materials and manufacturing technology mean that those systems can now produce parts for highly stressed or production critical applications.

IoT devices extend connectivity beyond the standard devices such as laptops, smartphones and tablets to a range of traditionally dumb or non-internet enabled devices and everyday objects.

  • Are you monitoring your assets with IoT devices and are you getting the information needed to improve those assets?
  • What does the present and future look like for your asset management strategies and how are you deploying Industry 4.0 in your business?
  • What are other industries doing and how can you learn from their experiences to date?
  • What resources are recommended to use and what do I need to know now that will help me with supplier selection?

For this event, we will have the privilege to hear from John Broadbent; Director & Founder, Realise Potential.
