The Australian Public Service Commission (APSC) and Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) would like to hear from young people with disability who would like to work, about:

what attracts you to a particular workplace
what you’re looking for in an employer and a role; and
what are your concerns in achieving your career ambitions.

We know this will be different for everyone, but hope that by talking to a number of young people with disability, we can get a sense of key themes and common workplace or job features that are important and how to give guidance to facilitate people with disability achieving their career aspirations. This will help the Australian Public Service do a better job of attracting and retaining people with disability in meaningful roles that will enable people with disability to fulfil their career ambitions. It will similarly enable the AHRC to better advocate for people with disability to obtain suitable employment.

If you would be willing to share your thoughts and experiences looking for a role, considering a workplace or applying for a job, we’d like to hear from you.

We would also like to discuss what resources or information you feel you need to apply for jobs and can assist you in remaining in meaningful employment and assess and review what resources might presently exist for you.

Logistics

The workshop will be put together and facilitated by a team committed to ensuring sessions are accessible and as comfortable as possible for all participants. Space and flexibility will be provided. An Agenda for the day will be sent with your registration to give you a good sense of what to expect ahead of time. A copy of the workshop agenda can also be found below.

We know that your time is valuable. A payment of $90 will be made to you via electronic funds transfer (EFT), as recognition of your attendance.Upon your arrival at the workshop, we will provide you an EFT authorisation form to complete so that the payment can be made. Please remember to bring along your bank account details so that you can complete the EFT authorisation form.

If you are driving, there is limited street parking, most of which is metered, and paid parking is available underground at 204 Lygon Street.

Accessible parking is available on levels A, B, C and D, next to the lifts.

Purpose
• Explore the lived experience of young people with disability seeking employment.
• Identify challenges and barriers to employment.
• Explore what does being a 'good employer' mean.
• Explore perception of employment within the Australian Public Service (APS).

Format
• Discussion style with the opportunity for all to have input.
• Optional to use Mentimeter (Menti), an online anonymous polling tool.
• Option to write down thoughts and ideas.
• Flexible approach to best support the participants who attend on the day.
