Event description

“Southern children going forward at top volume” is truly what this little mission band is. The South Carolina Broadcasters are not to be missed. From heart stompin’ love songs eyes to rowdy gospel numbers that’ll make you shout hallelujah there is a rare beauty and honesty in the trio’s music.

"With passion, power and precision, they carry forward the inspiration of the Carter Family, whose 1920s and ’30s recordings provide the model for the Broadcasters." Be it an old standard out of the hymnal or a song from their own pen, their music is alive. The trio has shared the stage with Dr. Ralph Stanley, Taj Mahal, Ricky Scaggs, and the Carolina Chocolate Drops and can be found touring the country and bringing their distinctive sound to a venue near you.

Ivy Sheppard Since her fingers first touched the strings of a banjo at 17, Ivy knew she had to be a musician. This music speaks to something inside her and it’s the only thing that makes her feel whole. Through dedication and persistence she and The Broadcasters work tirelessly to bring the music of her home and heart to a new generation. Ivy can typically be found with a fiddle in her hands, listening to WPAQ, or searching for a new venue for the band. In her free time she enjoys running and tending to her heirloom roses and peonies.

Sarah Osborne Sarah Osborne feels most alive making this music. She grew up in the piedmont of North Carolina, singing the gospel songs of her great grandmother, the slave spirituals she learned at Snow Camp Outdoor Theatre, the musical soundtrack numbers on her Grandmother’s turn-table, and the sweetly passionate tunes she crafted as a “fiery and determined” young girl. Sarah met her first banjo in the summer of 2012, and after some hesitation, fell head-over-heels in love. Her other passions include her horses, traveling, and fresh biscuits from Snappy Lunch. She attends college classes when she has the time.

David Sheppard puts the drive in the Broadcasters sound. Like a freight train coming on down the line his style of playing gives The Broadcasters an unmistakable sound. Currently, his song writing knack is gaining the trio lots of attention. He is a world-renowned luthier and expert restorer of vintage acoustic instruments.
