This event brought to you by the Don Dunstan Foundation and FIXE is designed to inform attendees about how MaRS grew into a successful innovation district with social innovation at its core. Formerly the site of a public hospital, MaRS DD has become one of the most significant Canadian innovation precincts. In this series, visiting experts and current Thinkers in Residence: Allyson Hewitt and Dr Ilse Treurnicht will share their unique experiences and knowledge gained during the development of both the ‘architecture’ and purposeful vision for Toronto’s innovation precinct MaRS Discovery District. Dr Ilse Treurnicht is the former and founding CEO of MaRS Discovery District. Ilse joined MaRS in early 2005 from her role as president and CEO of Primaxis Technology Ventures, a start-up venture capital fund focused on the advanced technologies sector.
